Safety & Trust

Safe by design — not as an afterthought.

Sketchlings is built so children create safely, and parents stay in control of everything that touches the outside world.

Why Sketchlings is different

The things other apps quietly include — and the things we deliberately leave out.

No Ads

No advertising SDKs. No behavioral targeting. Ever.

No Chat

Kids can't message anyone — not strangers, not other users.

No Social Media

No feeds, no scrolling, no algorithmic pressure.

No Public Profiles

Children never appear with names, ages, or locations.

No Direct Messaging

There is no inbox inside the kid experience. Period.

What children can do

Lots of imagination — none of the worry.

Draw anything

Sketch, doodle, or upload artwork from real life.

Choose feelings & worlds

Pick a mood and a place using visual chips — no typing.

Hatch Sketchlings

Watch their imagination come to life with safe AI.

Roll silly names

Tap a die to generate friendly, family-safe names.

Share with a grown-up

Send creations to the family inbox or scrapbook.

What children can't do

The things we deliberately make impossible.

No chatting

There is no chat surface anywhere in the kid app.

No posting publicly

Kids cannot publish to a public feed. The Showcase is opt-in by parents only.

No personal info

Kids never enter names, emails, ages, or locations.

No interacting with strangers

There are no friend lists, followers, or DMs.

AI safety, in plain language

Four overlapping safeguards keep generations age-appropriate. If any layer is unsure, the creation is blocked — not shown.

Structured prompts

Kids never type free-form text to an AI. Every choice is an icon or chip.

Input screening

Uploads run through a child-safety classifier before they ever reach a creative model.

Output screening

Every generated image is checked for safety before a child sees it.

Parent review

Grown-ups can review or remove anything from the family gallery in one tap.

Choose your region

How AI is governed where your family lives

Select your country to see the child-focused AI legislation, data protections, and the commitments Sketchlings makes in that region. We don't aim to simply comply — we aim to exceed expectations where children are involved.

🇨🇦Canada: jurisdiction at a glance

Canada treats children's data as sensitive and AI as accountable.

Privacy law highlights
  • PIPEDA requires children's personal information to be handled with heightened care.
  • Quebec Law 25 gives families granular consent, portability, and deletion rights.
  • The proposed AIDA would impose risk-based duties on AI systems used by or on minors.
Key rights
  • Right to access, correct, and delete your child's data.
  • Right to export everything in a usable format.

Child-focused AI & safety law

  • PIPEDA — personal information of minors treated as sensitive data.
  • Quebec Law 25 — explicit, granular consent and the right to data portability and deletion.
  • Proposed AIDA (Artificial Intelligence and Data Act) — risk-based duties for AI used by or on minors.

Data protection for children

  • Data stored in compliant cloud regions with encryption in transit and at rest.
  • Parental account is the legal data controller for each child profile.
  • One-tap export and delete for everything a child has created.

Our commitments here

  • No biometric profiling.
  • No model fine-tuning on individual children's drawings.
  • Clear, plain-language disclosure of how AI is used in each feature.

This information is provided for transparency and is not legal advice. We review and update these summaries as legislation evolves. Last reviewed June 2026.

Parent FAQ

The questions parents ask us most often about safety, photos, moderation, and privacy.

If I take a picture of my child, will Sketchlings scan it for safety?

Yes. Every photo uploaded into Sketchlings is screened by an automated safety pipeline before it's ever sent to the creative model. Images that contain a real child's face, identifiable people, nudity, or anything our classifier flags as unsafe are blocked at upload, never stored beyond the safety check, and the parent is notified. Sketchlings is designed to transform a child's drawings and sketches — not to process photographs of real children.

What happens to a photo or drawing that gets blocked?

Blocked uploads are not saved to your child's gallery, are not used to train any model, and are deleted from temporary processing storage within minutes. Parents see a clear message in the dashboard explaining why the upload was blocked.

Can my child type anything they want as a prompt?

No. Sketchlings does not expose an open text box to children. Prompts are structured — kids choose from age-appropriate moods, environments, characters, and styles. Any free-text fields run through a child-safety filter before reaching the AI, and unsafe inputs are rejected with a friendly message.

Is my child's artwork used to train AI models?

No. We do not fine-tune or train foundation models on individual children's drawings, photos, or prompts. Your child's creations belong to your family.

Who can see what my child creates?

Only the authenticated parent account. There are no public feeds, no friend lists, no DMs, and no community features inside the kid experience. Sharing a creation outside Sketchlings is always an explicit parent action.

Can I delete everything my child has made?

Yes. From the parent dashboard you can hide, permanently delete, or export any individual creation — or wipe the entire profile in one tap. Deletions are honored across our systems within the statutory windows for your region.

How do you stop the AI from generating something inappropriate?

We layer multiple safeguards: structured (not free-form) prompts, a child-safety classifier on every input and output, an allowlist of styles and themes, and human review of any creation a parent flags. Outputs that fail any safety check are never shown to the child.

Are AI-generated images labeled as AI?

Yes. Generations are labeled as AI-assisted in the parent dashboard and on any exported file, in line with the EU AI Act and emerging global norms.

Do you sell or share data with advertisers?

Never. There are no third-party advertising SDKs in Sketchlings, no behavioral profiling, and no sale of personal data. Our revenue comes only from optional parent subscriptions.

How is parental consent verified?

Each child profile is created from inside a verified parent account, and the parent is the legal data controller. We follow the consent rules that apply in your region (COPPA in the US, GDPR Article 8 in the EU, and equivalent frameworks elsewhere).

What if I see something I'm not comfortable with?

Use the Report button on any creation in the parent dashboard. Reports go to our moderation team, the creation is hidden from the child immediately, and we respond within one business day.
